KNOW ABOUT AN AWARD?
WELCOME
Welcome to your very own Schulich Medical Student Funding Guide. This guide was created as a SAC initiative to help students take advantage of all of the different ways to finance both your education and your individual endeavors, such as research and other student-driven initiatives. There are a variety of different resources, all brought onto this site for your convenience. Here’s how to make the most of this guide:
Check back often! As new awards come up and deadlines approach, they will be posted in the Upcoming Awards section. Here you will find all the info you need to apply for each award.
Take a peak at the Merit-Based Awards. These awards recognize excellence in both pre-clerkship and clerkship years. Although these awards do not require an application and are based on academic performance, other awards may require an application or essay- so look carefully at Other Awards and Scholarships!
Want research experience? Schulich Research Programs have funding for projects both here in London and internationally. International projects also may be eligible for funding through the International Initiatives Funding Committee.
Are you finishing up research and looking to present it outside of London? Or do you have a project idea that could use some money? Look into both the Dean’s Undergraduate Student Travel Fund and the External Funding Committee and see if your initiative is eligible for funding.
Take advantage of the resources here at Schulich! Set up an appointment to meet with a Financial Officer. Find out how in the Looking for financial advice? section. These officers can help you navigate through the different sources of financial help offered at Western. To get you started, check out Western Financial Aid- and make sure you fill out your own “Financial Assistance Profile” in order to be eligible for bursaries and need-based awards.
If you’re looking for opportunities to make some money during the summer, be sure to check out the Summer Opportunities Guide at www.uwomeds.com/sumop. You’ll find lots of research awards as well as clinical positions that allow you to be paid while you gain valuable experiences.
Good luck!
