ALBERT C. STRICKLER, M.D. SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Brief Summary:
The Fund was established by Albert C. Strickler, M.D. to provide recognition and financial assistance for students who achieve scholarship in the face of personal physical adversity. Dr. Strickler was always conscious of his own deformities and functional limitations arising from Charcot Marie Tooth Disease. He never forgot the awkwardness of childhood play and the uncertain social acceptance of adolescence – the burden of visible deformity and handicap in a competitive and often insensitive society.
Nevertheless, he entered medical school at the University of Toronto and graduated in 1958. This was followed by a varied career in teaching and clinical practice spanning 50 years. It was his wish to recognize other students similarly disadvantaged who were striving to overcome adversity and achieve scholarship. Applicants must complete an application form, a brief essay as to why they deserve the award as well as provide medical documentation of a current visible physical impairment (as defined in the Scholarship Guidelines).
